New Students

If you're interested in developing your career in farming then Fresh Start is the ideal place to begin.

As a Fresh Start Academy member you would benefit from a 12 month training course which covers a range of topics related to farm business management including business skills, identification of business opportunities and how to promote your business successfully. You may be teamed up with a retiring farmer who will support and mentor you through the early stages of your career in farming.

This year long programme will build on your existing technical skills and can be tailored around your individual needs. You will have the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals as well as meet consultants and land agents who can identify new opportunities immediately so that you can build your career in farming.

Some of the topics which you could study include:

• Marketing
• Environmental planning and management of business plans
• Diversification
• Alternative/non-food crops and alternative livestock production
• Applying for tenancies and the Rules & Regulations of Tenancies
• Risk management
• Health & Safety legislation
• Business administration
• Labour management, including how to select and recruit staff

As part of the course, you will visit farms and other farming organisations as well as have guest lecturers from a variety of industry professionals.
